On This Day in History: April 13th
:D yay, so my brillant idea is to randomly post topics called on this day in history, and as the title says i am going to tell you about things that happened on this day in history. I know that you all want to know what happened on this fine day of April 13th, so lets get to it.
1782 - Washington, North Carolina was incorporated as the first town named for George Washington.
1796 - The first known elephant to come to the United States arrived from Bengal, India. It entered the United States through New York City.
1902 - JC Penney opened his first store in Kemmerer, Wyoming.
1908 - A ban on dancing, card playing, and theater-attending was lifted by the New England Methodist Episcopal Conference.
1935 - London to Australia airline service was introduced by Imperial Airways and Qantas.
1943 - Today, the anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's birth, the Jefferson Memorial was dedicated in Washington, DC.
1954 - Hank Aaron played with the Milwaukee Braves in first ever major-league baseball game. Hammerin’ Hank and his team went 0-for-5 against Cincinnati. His first major-league homerun came 10 days later.
1957 - Elvis Presley's All Shook Up rocketed to the Number 1 spot on Billboard's record charts on this date, remaining in the top spot for 8 weeks.
1964 - Sidney Poitier became the first male black to win a Best Actor Oscar for his engaging performance in Lilies of the Field on this date.
1966 - Abdul Salam Arif, president of Iraq, was killed in a helicopter crash.
1972 - The first strike in major league baseball history came to an end, after the players walked off the field 13 days earlier.
1980 - After 8 years, and 3,388 performances, Broadway’s longest-running musical, "Grease," closed, earning $8 million.

April 13th was also Easter Monday... how'd you forget that one?
On the Other side of the world... and in Space... Mainichi reports that the Central League Opening pitch was thrown from SPACE!
Again the heated rivalry between Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers starts anew... the game ended in a 6-6 draw... could this be the work of the Curse of Colonel Sanders?
